Enterprise Ruby Conference in Columbus, OH August 15-17.

From Joe O’Brien (AAJUG Speaker from earlier this year):

We are once again incredibly excited to be putting on erubycon. This year the conference will be held August 15, 16, 17th in Polaris. The conference will be held in the Microsoft facilities in Polaris. We are going to be securing a block of rooms at the new Hilton opening up across the street.

The purpose of erubycon is to help demonstrate Ruby’s place in the enterprise. Instead of relying on the FUD heard both locally and nationally, come hear from people who have had incredible success getting Ruby into some of the largest organizations. We have an even better lineup of speakers and talks than we did last year, if you can believe it. We are going to be covering topics such as data warehousing, JRuby, testing legacy JEE code with JRuby, Ruby code generation, enterprise workflows and many, many more topics.

Registration is only $199 for early birds. This means that with the usergroup discount, you only pay $149 !!

The usergroup code is USERGROUP (we know, it’s quite original). Just enter that at erubycon.com and it will calculate your rate.

Space is limited this year so make sure to sign up early.

You can also keep up with our latest announcements, including some more amazing speakers we have not announced yet, through twitter.com/erubycon.

If you are a member of another usergroup, feel free to pass this message along. The discount code is meant to encourage usergroup participation. Send it out to any list you can find, but please do not post it on a blog, twitter, or other such medium.

Presentation Summary

Why Ruby? An introduction to JRuby

You’ve probably heard of the JRuby initiative to bring Ruby to the JVM. This open source project was started several years ago and has gained momentum ever since Sun hired two of the lead developers on the project. Now that it is fully production ready you might be asking yourself several key questions.

What does Ruby give me?

How do I run it?

What can I do with it?

I will walk through an introduction to JRuby while answering these questions, as well as dispelling several of the myths that are out there about it.

Presenter BIO:

Joe is a father, speaker, author and developer. Before helping found EdgeCase, LLC, Joe was a developer with ThoughtWorks and spent much of his time working with large J2EE and .NET systems for Fortune 500 companies.
